Website and documentation privacy

This page covers dnsweaver.com and the DNSweaver documentation at https://maxfield-allison.github.io/dnsweaver/. These are public information sites. There's no account or upload form here, and the illustrations run in your browser. Analytics on these pages don't monitor the application when you run it.

What gets measured

The publisher's self-hosted Umami service measures page visits, referring websites, approved campaign labels, browser and device categories, language and approximate location. It also counts selected actions: following links, clicking downloads, reaching parts of a page, using documentation search and copying a code example. Search terms, copied code and form contents aren't sent.

The product site and its documentation share one analytics property. This helps show which pages visitors use together and where they leave. Each product has its own property. Umami processes an IP address and browser information to calculate a rotating identifier. It doesn't store the IP address in its analytics records. Shared networks can group different visitors together, and changing networks or browsers can split one visitor's activity. These reports don't identify you by name.

Page addresses are limited to published canonical paths. URL fragments and arbitrary query parameters are excluded. A fixed list of campaign values lets the reports distinguish links from places such as Bluesky, LinkedIn or a launch article. Incoming referrals are reduced to the website's origin, without query strings or fragments. Link events record a destination category and approved destination information, not the link's text.

A download event means someone clicked a link. It doesn't tell us that a download finished, that the software was installed or that a sponsorship payment went through. Once you leave for another service, that service handles your visit under its own policy.

Your browser controls

The Umami integration uses no analytics cookies or persistent visitor ID. It doesn't load when your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, or when an existing Umami disable preference is set. Blockers may also prevent collection. The site still works without analytics. Documentation themes may save display preferences in your browser. Those preferences aren't visitor identifiers.

Hosting and separate analytics

Cloudflare serves the product website and provides separate Web Analytics, including aggregate traffic and page performance measurements. The Umami controls above apply to Umami. They don't control Cloudflare's separate beacon. GitHub Pages hosts the documentation. Hosting services process ordinary request information, including IP addresses, to deliver and protect their services.

What isn't collected

There's no session replay, recording of your screen, advertising profile, cross-product visitor ID or application telemetry in this integration. Files, document contents, machine configuration and prompts aren't sent. Identifier rotation doesn't delete reports that have already been collected.

See Cloudflare's privacy policy and GitHub's privacy statement for their services.
